Group Living Expectations
BLW is a very unique and highly intensive workshop requiring high levels of energy and focus during daily programs. The below policy and behavior expectations have been developed to ensure an overall positive experience for every participant, and apply equally to everyone at BLW, including Staff and Resource Individuals. We all share in the responsibility to live by and support these expectations so that:
* We are able to get the most from all BLW classes and program events
* All attendees may enjoy a quiet night's sleep
* The reputation of the workshop is protected - as is the reputation of all who attend
You will be asked to sign a copy of the expectation and the form will be in a packet of information you will receive and will be collected during check in.
* Participate fully in workshop activities
* Turn off all electronic communications devices during program times and only use such equipment
outdoors so as not to disturb others
* Remain within workshop program area boundaries
* Observe "lights out" and "quiet times" in cabins
* During "lights out", be in one of only three places: A) assigned bed/cabin, B) Restroom,
or C) nurses station
* Only enter cabins occupied by the opposite gender when scheduled to take part in a program
meeting in that cabin
* Treat all participants and staff with respect
* Use language and exhibit behavior which is appropriate
* Respect the safety regulations of Recreation Unlimited. (The lake area is surrounded by a
security fence and may only be accessed during day-light free time periods or as part of a
program conducted by BLW
* Tobacco use in any form is prohibited by Recreation Unlimited and fully supported by BLW
* Possession or use of illegal drugs, alcohol, fireworks, firearms or other illegal substances or
items is prohibited
What to Bring
* Bedding!! The bunks have camp-style mattresses, so a sleeping bag, air mattress or
pad will aid in keeping you comfortable
* Toiletries - Towel, washcloth, personal hygiene items. There is no "camp store", so
are pretty much confined to what you bring with you
* Sturdy comfortable shoes - March in Ohio is unpredictable, and some of the
programming will take place outside. You will also be walking between buildings
* A throw rug for the floor next to your bunk. The floors are cement, remember, it's March
* Extra clothes, socks, shoes, jackets - March in Ohio - do you see a pattern here?
* Rain gear - It's that March thing again, and maybe if we have it, it won't rain (or snow!)
* Costume items for evening program
* Your mug (not your face - something you can drink from) Coffee, tea and hot chocolate are
available during normal hours
* A little extra cash for session fees, optional 4-5er's, auction and bookstore
* Equipment and/or material needed for your session (click on session and it'll take you to the
class description page)
* Pen/pencil/notebook for note taking
* An acoustical instrument if you play
* Completed and signed forms Don't leave home without 'em because you can't stay unless
you have the necessary forms
Health Forms
Health forms are included in your packet of information sent to you prior to BLW. These forms are extremely important, and without them, you will not be able to attend BLW. Attendees under the age of 18 must have their forms signed by a parent or legal guardian. Due to HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996) considerations, these forms will not be published on this web site. If you lose or require forms, please contact Paula Keller (blwregistrar@yahoo.com) for additional forms. In accordance with HIPAA regulations, only the Nurse and/or designated medical personnel will have access to your medical forms.

Photo Release
A photo of the entire workshop class is taken and distributed every year. Also, photographs are taken as part of one of the classes and used in a slide show presentation. Some of those photos are used on this web site as well. You will be given the opportunity to opt out of the group photo as well as any photos for the slide show and/or web site. If you wish to be included in photographs taken during BLW, please check the box on the "Group Living Expectations and Photo Release form in your
information packet.
